Kigali's luxury hotel sector is undergoing its biggest expansion in a decade, with four new five-star properties set to open before the Grand Prix, adding 1,200 rooms to the city's premium accommodation stock.

Kigali's luxury hotel sector is undergoing its most significant expansion in a decade, driven by the anticipated demand from Formula One teams, sponsors, broadcasters, and high-net-worth fans attending the 2030 Grand Prix. Four new five-star properties are scheduled to open before the race weekend, adding 1,200 rooms to the city's premium accommodation stock and effectively doubling its five-star capacity.

The four new properties include a 320-room Four Seasons on the shores of Lake Muhazi, a 280-room Aman resort in the Nyandungu wetlands, a 350-room Rosewood in the Kacyiru district adjacent to the circuit, and a 250-room Six Senses wellness retreat in the hills above the city. All four are currently under construction and on track for their planned opening dates.

"The Grand Prix has been a catalyst for investment that Kigali's hospitality sector has been waiting for," said Rwanda Hospitality Association president Olivier Nduhungirehe. "These are not temporary facilities — they are world-class hotels that will serve Kigali's growing business and leisure tourism market for decades to come. The Grand Prix has accelerated investment that might otherwise have taken ten years."

Formula One teams have already begun negotiations for exclusive use of entire hotel properties during the race weekend, a common practice at other Grand Prix events. At least six of the ten constructors are understood to have secured provisional agreements with Kigali hotels, with the remaining teams expected to finalise their arrangements before the end of 2029.

For fans seeking more affordable options, the Rwanda Development Board has launched a homestay programme connecting visitors with local families offering spare rooms and apartments. The programme, which has already registered 3,000 properties across Kigali, is expected to provide accommodation for up to 15,000 visitors during the Grand Prix weekend, generating income for local families while adding to the city's overall capacity.
