Pit Lane Layout Finalised Following FIA Technical Inspection

FIA technical delegates completed their inspection of the pit lane and paddock designs this week, signing off on the final layout. The 24-garage pit lane will be among the widest on the current calendar, ensuring safe operations at race speed.

FIA technical delegates have completed a comprehensive inspection of the Kigali circuit's pit lane and paddock infrastructure, formally signing off on the final layout ahead of construction entering its critical phase. The approval clears the way for the installation of permanent garage structures along the 380-metre pit lane.

The Kigali pit lane will accommodate all ten teams in 24 individual garages — two per constructor — making it one of the most spacious facilities on the current Formula One calendar. Each garage measures 18 metres wide and 16 metres deep, exceeding the FIA's minimum specifications and providing teams with ample space for their increasingly complex equipment.

"The width of the pit lane was a priority from the very beginning," said circuit director Jean-Pierre Habimana. "We studied every existing street circuit and identified pit lane congestion as a recurring safety concern. Kigali's layout eliminates that risk entirely, with a minimum lane width of 14 metres throughout."

The paddock, situated behind the pit lane on reclaimed land adjacent to the Convention Centre, will feature a two-storey motorhome village with direct access to the circuit's media centre and hospitality suites. A dedicated pedestrian bridge will connect the paddock to the main grandstand complex, allowing accredited personnel to cross the circuit safely during non-running periods.

Construction of the pit lane structure is scheduled to begin in January 2030, with completion targeted for June — leaving a four-month window for fit-out, testing, and final FIA sign-off before the November race weekend.
